About ByMarisaA Message from Marisa, Creator of ByMarisa and our newest line, SteelCore For years dance, pilates and yoga professionals have shared with me their desire for a new kind of clothing to teach in. They wanted something stylish and body-conscious that didn’t leave them over-exposed while demonstrating exercises. They wanted comfortable clothes they could wear for long hours without needing to tug or adjust the fit. They wanted a collection that could be mixed and matched, one street-savvy enough to be worn straight from the studio to the grocery store, or dressed up with heels and jewelry before grabbing a drink at night. They loved the styling of our ByMarisa leotards and unitards, but expressed a need for two pieces so they could go to the bathroom easily! When I began to teaching Pilates and ballet again--and taking yoga classes myself--I discovered what they meant. There wasn’t anything that fit all my needs. I wanted to look professional and stylish without being over-designed, padded and branded. I needed something tastefully sexy made from seamless, fabulous fabrics. So I got to work on a new collection to take us from "Class to Car to Cocktails." I started by adapting my favorite ByMarisa pieces to work as separates. Maintaining our brand’s exclusive elastic free construction and couture quality assembly were paramount to me. Next I sought out the perfect fabrics--imported blends that were soft and warm to the touch, but had body, memory and breatheability. Last came endless fittings on women of all shapes and sizes, an adjustment that allowed the new collection to reflect the bodies of real women, not just ballerinas. Finally, I needed to decide what to call this new collection. It had to speak to so many disciplines that I had trouble putting a name on it. Then, while visiting the new SteelStacks project in Bethlehem, PA, I finally found it. The soaring blast furnaces of Bethlehem Steel were featured as a stunning backdrop to a new arts center rising right in my own backyard. Recently purchased by the Smithsonian Institution, these Steel Stacks said it all: SteelCore. It was a name perfect for pilates, yoga and dance, all of which come from strong hearts and even stronger cores. The name represented everything I believe in, going on to underscore that all our products are manufactured locally, with pride, right in Bethlehem, PA. It is with great excitement that I introduce the new SteelCore line of pilates, yoga and dancewear. We hope that as the collection diversifies and grows stronger, you will alongside us.
